Pre-Journey

Ethan has been able to see spirits and aura since he was born, causing him to be rather isolated from his peers due to these abilities. He spent most of his time befriending spirits or the Pokemon in the woods of New Bark (specifically a Mankey that he kept as his "secret friend"). Between this and his summers away to Sinnoh, Ethan found himself with a few strange friends.He met his journey friend Lyra when her family moved to New Bark from Pallet Town. They met after defending one another from bullies. After that she became his first best friend in New Bark and the two grew very close with Ethan idolizing admiring Lyra very much.When he was 8 he was asked by his aunt to help her ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

After that it was decided that it would be best for Ethan to undergo medium training.Dropping out of elementary school and taking on formal training as a medium, Ethan exceled from 8-12 as a trainee and proceeded to turn his image around New Bark around. He was on track to graduate the training stage and make it to his apprenticeship after completing the final trainee exam.Due to the events of The Exam Ethan, although passing the test, quit being a medium and quickly found himself aimless, afraid, and struggling to handle the events. Journey

Starting his journey, Ethan picked Chikorita as his partner while Lyra chose Cyndaquil. The duo started their journey together, but as Lyra charged ahead Ethan began to linger behind. It felt as if more and more obstacles would show up. With the arrival of Neo-Rocket and the Legendary beasts Ethan found his resolve wavering. More often than not, when there was trouble, he left it to Lyra to take care of. She was stronger, braver, more deserving of any reward that may come. If there was ever a problem, Lyra could handle it. According to Ethan at least.And so, a child who had been meant for great things stood off to the side, doing everything he could to avoid triggering some kind of fate. He dillied and dallied while the gods he was born to help waited, only to meet an unexpected replacement.From time to time, when he wasn't hiding away at the daycare or finding his passion in the Pokethelon, his path would cross with Lyra's and he would help her in the ways he could against Team Rocket. Not a weak trainer by any means, Ethan carried all the potential with none of the drive.The final nail in his journey was his fight with Champion Red. Having made it to the mountain before Lyra Ethan challenged Red, a source of admiration for him at the time. He never expected to win. It was just a child's ambition to battle his hero and a well meaning attempt to remind the Champion to go home and visit his mom. He wasn't supposed to....It was a difficult battle, Ethan winning by the skin of his teeth with only his Bayleef left barely standing. The look in Red's eyes, the intensity he battled with, the state of his aura, they all stuck with Ethan and left a mental as well as physical impression on him. With Red blacked out from his loss Ethan found himself unable to leave the Champion to die in the snow. So from Champion to Champion, he carried Red's body down the mountain with a fresh scar to forever remind him of this battle and a head full of confused thoughts.The more he carried the trainer, the closer they got to the bottom of the mountain, the heavier it sunk in that He was champion now. But that didn't make sense. He couldn't be. This was not his win to have. He had done nothing to earn it, it was a fluke. He had stolen it from Lyra. Where was Lyra. Why wasn't she here. This was her win, all hers. She would be a better champion than Ethan ever could, she could handle the title. How could he make this right. He couldn't bear being a champion, not after seeing how crazy Red had gone. What could he possibly do. Where was-Stuck in a flurry of his thoughts he almost misses Lyra coming up the mountain. Before she can even utter a congratulations as Ethan's assumed win he challenged her to a battle. Oregano on her last legs, Ethan begs Lyra to battle him and refuses to budge otherwise. It is the quickest battle the two have ever and will ever have. The easiest Championship ever won.

Post-Journey

The two friends never really talked about that battle again and Ethan never spoke to Lyra about just what exactly happened on the mountain with Red. A series of unsung feelings and frustrations. Gratitude that Lyra never wanted and Ethan could never give selflessly. They never said Lyra beat Red, merely that she defeated the Champion, and left it at that for others to fill in the blanks. At Ethan's request. He didn't want anyone to know of his win.But he quickly found that battling left a sour taste in his mouth. He never wanted to see his Pokemon that hurt again, and the way everyone got during battle... All he could see was the image of Red as people's ambitions burned bright. Champion. A title many yearned for and dreamed of that he had thrown away. Could he face anyone knowing that? Would he want to?Battling was scary. People were scary. The world was scary. A crumbling foundation of Ethan's mental state quickly fell to dust and the psychic, then trainer, then champion, then nobody, found himself unable to participate in a world like this. He released his team all except for one. His Bayleef would never let him part ways, and thus stuck by him even as he spiraled further and further into his isolation.Ethan became a recluse, never leaving his room or speaking to people for the first few years. Eventually, he found his voice again, but still refused to leave the safety of his room. Bit by bit he made it to helping his parents around the daycare but he never left the property and stayed to the backyard on the rare occasions he left the house. This isolation and desire to shrink himself as much as possible, erase himself as much as possible, results in the repression of his abilities and left him normal to some degree. Once he reached 20, an inciting incident dragged him out of the house and started his progress into rejoining society.Since then, Ethan has found himself being quite the party boy, catching up on things he missed as much as possible. Thriving at the Pokethelon, partying and drinking every night, finding intimate relations as much as possible. Whatever kept his mind from lingering, he was happy to humor it. Now able to live life as a normal person with now powers to plague him, Ethan runs from anything that could kick start his abilities.
